Today we hiked on nature trails on the peninsula north of Varnaes.

Just about 10 minutes by car from Aabenraa, this trail follows the fjord and goes through forests and fields. An 8 km hike that first takes us along the water of the Åbenråfjord, where the reeds were taller than us at times.

At the water's edge, we could have found tons of great stones, but our path continues along the cliff to the north.

In the distance, you can see Løytland and on the other side of the peninsula, the coast of Als, where we were just the day before yesterday. Here, the trail runs along cornfields and sometimes goes through tunnel-like vegetation.

If the wind would blow less, it would be somewhat more enjoyable. With just under 20 degrees, it could actually be nice, but the strong wind makes it uncomfortable, especially when the little bit of sun disappears, which occasionally shines on us. Soon we reach a beautiful beech forest after walking along magnificent wildflower meadows.

Shortly before returning to the starting point, we get caught in a nasty rain shower and we feel cold as we sit in the car again at 15 degrees Celsius outside temperature and quite lively wind.

Since it's only 3 PM, we decide to go to Haderslev.
About half an hour north of Åbenrå is Haderslev, which apparently is a very nice little town.

We find a parking lot near the cathedral and start walking to have a coffee first, especially since it's starting to rain again... At Café Kridt, it's nice and we also grab something to eat as a late lunch or early dinner. Shortly after 5 PM, we are at the door, turning into the pedestrian zone, only to see all the shops suddenly closing.

It's 5:30 PM and even the cathedral is closed. Pressing the door handle triggers a shrieking alarm system 😱 We need to get out of here! What remains? Nothing here anymore... So off to Åbenrå.
Just before 6 PM, we are back at our little cottage and spend a quiet evening, including a nice chat with Ingrid, who comes home around 9 PM. So today we go to bed earlier. The weather is supposed to be better tomorrow ✌️😊
