At 5:15 a.m. on Tuesday morning (31.10.2017), my smartphone wakes me up on the beach of Sulina. Despite good intentions, I once again get up after pressing the snooze button several times. There is not much left to pack. The mattress and sleeping bag are quickly stored away, and the tent is packed up along with the morning frost. I take one more picture of the dawn at the beach and we hurry to the ferry dock in Sulina. A few barking locals accompany us again and I have an uncomfortable déjà vu. But this time we reach the dock on time and are able to board the Moldova ferry 10 minutes before it leaves. After being assigned a cozy spot where Rango won't bother anyone, I treat myself to a cup of coffee at the ship's bar and have breakfast with Dicken. During the trip to Tulcea, I receive some bad news. Michael, who had offered me a place to stay for a few days, has to go to Germany at short notice. So I try to find somewhere to stay through Couchsurfing. We arrive at the port of Tulcea around half past eleven. After leaving the ferry, we go into town and have lunch for Rango and me. Afterwards, we make a round through Tulcea to return the bungalow key to Iulian. As there are still no responses to my Couchsurfing requests in the afternoon, I decide to look for a small guesthouse or motel. But both options don't work out, so in the late afternoon I check into the Hotel Egreta near the port for a reasonable price. After taking a warm shower, I go to the laundry with a bag of clothes. Unfortunately, I'm too late, the place is already closed. Back in the hotel room, I start washing my clothes by hand. Due to limited space for drying, I can only do it bit by bit.
So I spend the next two days with smaller trips in Tulcea and doing laundry. The Dicken is also thoroughly rinsed in the hotel shower, and so on Thursday evening we are ready for the next adventure. On Alina's recommendation, I have planned a hike in the Măcin Mountains and plan to travel there by bus on Friday. We'll see...
