Experiences of the first days! Johannesburg (06.-08.09)

已发表: 09.09.2018

After much consideration, I have finally decided to write a travel blog. This blog will capture my memories and give you the opportunity to get a glimpse of my journey. So feel free to stop by from time to time if you feel like it 😊

We landed in Johannesburg on September 6th after a long flight. Our hostel was really a stroke of luck, as we met very open and warm-hearted people on the first day.

During check-in, we were advised not to leave the street and only enter the areas under security supervision. After a long day, we had the opportunity to enjoy African beer at a night market, which can compete with German beer!

On the second day, we went to Soweto, to the Klifstown district, with a small group. Zip, who showed us the village, used to live there as a child. The people there live in corrugated iron shacks surrounded by dirt, trash, and stench. This experience still makes me sad and thoughtful and shows how grateful we should be for what we have!

We then visited a kindergarten. The children were very excited about the visit and were eager to take photos. Fari's red hair was particularly interesting. It's nice to see how happy people can be with so little.

The village is financially supported through the income from the 'tours'. Otherwise, such a tour would not have been an option for us!

We also visited the house where Nelson Mandela and his wife lived, as well as the 'Apartheid' Museum, which illustrates the former segregation of 'Blacks and Whites'.
