Day 20 - Melbourne

已发表: 25.12.2017

We start in Lorne and drive the last stretch of the Great Ocean Road to Torquay, where we have a cozy breakfast. Then we head to Melbourne. Our campsite is located just outside the city center, but has a good bus connection into the city.

Melbourne is a very big, great and clean city with a lot to discover.

Our first stop is the Queen Victoria Market. A huge market hall where you can buy pretty much everything. Clothes, jewelry, souvenirs, fruits, vegetables and so on. Definitely worth a visit. If you want to buy fresh fish, cheese or meat, you can do so in the second huge market hall.

Next stop is the Melbourne Central Station. There is an extremely large shopping center located there, which even extends over several intersections. In this center you can find pretty much everything your heart desires, as well as one of the smallest libraries in the world and many restaurants.

A really great street is Hosier Lane. A colorful street full of graffiti. Even the ground is partially painted in colors.

At Ferderation Square, Melbourne's cultural heart, where there is always something going on, we take a little break and recharge our batteries with lemonade and fish.

From there we take the tram to St. Kilda, a district of Melbourne located slightly outside the city. In St. Kilda, you can watch wild penguins coming out of the water at the pier. We are lucky to see two right away. At the pier, you can also sit back and enjoy the view of the Melbourne skyline. We consider visiting Brighton Beach, which is known for its colorful beach huts, but decide against it as we are getting tired.

So we take the train back to the city center and stroll through the city a bit more before we exhaustively head to our bus to the campsite.

Melbourne is really worth seeing and we haven't seen everything yet.
