We are now in the area that was developed by German settlers. Every now and then you still see German names, there are German schools, restaurants, and sports clubs. We ate at the restaurant "Frau Holle" 👍😄 But basically these are Chilean cities. The German heritage is more cherished for tourists. There are still some wooden houses of the settlers, but it is expensive and time-consuming to maintain them. Some do it, some prefer to build a new house next door. Basically like everywhere in the world.
In the last two days, we haven't done anything special. There are 4 other Germans here, with whom we sat and talked for a long time. One couple has been traveling for 6 weeks, the other couple has been traveling in their VW van for several months. They only go back to Germany when they no longer feel like traveling, otherwise they are in South America.
Yesterday evening, at our special request, we had a real Swiss cheese fondue! Super! With the mixed cheese from three dairies and a little Pisco instead of Kirsch, top 🍯 the 6 of us finished off the pot. A few kilometers away, a German-descendant farmer lovingly collected all kinds of objects, books, clothes, etc. and opened a museum. The site is beautiful and we also bought a small pot of honey. It is advertised everywhere here and we wanted to try it. It's really delicious 😋
Chile is a master of the row house settlement! As far as the eye can see, there are small houses, all the same, all settlements with sports and playground equipment. It has a bit of a prison charm, but of course, the new, small houses are 100 times better than the old, crooked shacks where many still live. And it gets cold here, so a proper stove is worth gold.
The Chileans have made a special building in Frutillar. The "Teatro del Lago" is built into the lake, you can see the volcano and it is said to have great acoustics. We listened to the street musicians and felt like we were at the New Year's concert from Vienna when the Radetzky March sounded 🎼🎻 Today, too, we will take it easy. The hotel complex is so beautiful that you really enjoy being here. And it takes until about 1 pm for the clouds to be pushed away by the sun ☀️🌤
