As the last stops on my journey, the places De Kelders and Hermanus awaited me. These places are especially popular between June - November, when whales come to the bay to give birth to their young.
Now, I'm a bit early, but the underwater wildlife here still has a lot to offer and I wanted to explore it.
At 8 o'clock in the morning, we went out on a small boat and after a calm start to the 2.5-hour tour, there were two personal highlights to see at the end. After the seals, which luckily still exist in many places, we were able to spot 2 whales - not the type that comes from June to September, but still an absolutely fascinating experience.
And after already going on three tours (in other countries), where the dolphins were supposed to be the highlight, I finally got to experience them. About 50 dolphins, accompanied by a variety of seagulls, were jumping and enjoying their breakfast in the sea. This was definitely one of my absolute highlights, and after watching the documentary 'Seaspiracy' on Netflix afterwards, my heart was a little broken.
What are we doing to this unique wildlife?! I hope that drastic changes will be made in the future, and everyone can contribute to that.
