December 8-9, 2021: Tossa de Mar
After chatting with our neighbors on our pitch (greetings to Portugal), we only left in the evening and drove to another pitch, which was now located in Tossa de Mar.
The next day, we walked into the city of Tossa de Mar without knowing what to expect and behold, a beautiful castle complex right by the sea. What the many small marinas were in France, apparently the small or large castles are in Spain or Catalonia. After the castles in Roses and l'Escala, this one was clearly bigger and better preserved. A sign at the entrance of the castle also displayed the amount of the last funding from 2018 (around €120,000), which quickly put the good condition into perspective again. Nevertheless, the investments paid off, because the complex was absolutely beautiful to look at - even if not everything was restored historically accurately.
Tossa de Mar seems to be known by tourists due to the film industry, as an actress was honored with a bronze figure in the middle of the castle.
After a hearty lunch by the sea, we continued driving towards Barcelona and passed through Lloret de Mar. This is one of the biggest party cities in Europe, which is certainly also due to the many German high school graduates who celebrate their passed Abitur (final exams) here every year. In December, this party city, which never seems to sleep in the summer, is almost completely asleep. In the endlessly long small streets, where a bar and nightclub are lined up in the summer, now only worn-down steel gates or steel grids can be seen, and it feels like being in a huge warehouse where storage rooms are rented to individuals.
Only the church in the city center and the surrounding shops were still open, and a few tourists were also mingling here. Otherwise, it seems that Lloret will only wake up again next summer...
Day 54 - Total tour 4,035 km
