We are back 😍
After a 09:45 h flight we landed in Windhoek at 08:00
The flight was pleasant and fairly quiet.
If it weren't for the 250kg passenger behind us, who used our seats as support every time he turned his body.
It felt like he wanted to rip out our row of seats including us 🫣
We had booked seats 18 A/C 16 D/E with more legroom in advance for an additional charge of 110€.
That was absolutely necessary!!
We're not giants, but Discovery has arranged the rows of seats so close together that even a hobbit can't fit his legs properly.
So we spent the long flight surprisingly comfortably.
Now the adventure can begin💪
Next steps:
-Official entry including visa control:
This was carried out with German colonial precision
-Collecting luggage…did our bags survive the flight as well as we did?
The bags are already ready in the baggage hall 👌👌
This has never happened so quickly at Dortmund Airport
-Collect cash
Carsten and Kristina have each reached the machine’s upper limit of N$3000
-Take over rental car
I had previously done an online Quick Xpress Check in with AVIS...it wasn't worth the effort! We had to fill everything out again by hand on site.
The reward for our double work:
We got a brand new Toyota Fortuner 4x4 💪
-Drive to our first accommodation in Windhoek “Die Heinitzburg”
Absolutely no problems, except for turning on the wipers when turning 😂😂🫣 Indicator lever is on the right instead of the left like in Germany 🙈
Now let's go to the terrace and enjoy our welcome drink at 29 degrees👌
After we had chilled out by the pool and made up for our lack of sleep, we set off on foot to Windhoek City.
After a walk on Independence Road, Christ Church and Tintenpalast, we realized that a lot of Namibian children grew up in the GDR and are now back in Namibia collecting donations for a come together for the children who were sent away at that time.
It's just strange that most of the fundraisers were apparently born after reunification 😂😂
Anyway, we decided to enjoy the first African sunset on the rooftop bar of the Hilton Hotel.
Highly recommended once you get used to the Hakuna Matata mentality...the Paris Hilton would be dehydrated!
Afterwards we took a taxi to Joe's Beerhouse!
We had a really good meal here. We really enjoyed the springbok, kudu and oryx!
Even though it is a tourist attraction, the food was great and the prices were reasonable (Kudu Strak with side dishes around 14€) compared to Germany!
But now goodnight Africa and thank you Namibia for the warm welcome!!
