Guadalajara is a city and municipality in the province of Guadalajara, in Castilla-La Mancha (Spain, Europe). It is the capital of the province of Guadalajara and is also considered the capital of the comarca of Campiña de Guadalajara, a subregion within the larger Castilian-Manchegan comarca of Alcarria. Additionally, it serves as the seat of the judicial district, being the judicial district number 1 of the province of Guadalajara.
As of 2023, it has a population of 89,010 inhabitants and covers an area of 235.51 km². Guadalajara is located just 65 km from Madrid (a little over half an hour approximately). The municipality of Guadalajara is divided between the city of Guadalajara (the municipal and provincial capital) and the localities (villages) of Iriépal, Taracena, Urbanization Bellavista, Urbanization el Clavín, Usanos, and Valdenoches.
The beautiful Co-Cathedral of Guadalajara is dedicated to Santa María de la Fuente la Mayor; it was built between the 13th and 14th centuries and is in the Mudejar style.
