Ok… that was exciting.
Since Saturday we have been preparing for Idalia here via television and the weather app: the weather channel is constantly broadcasting the “projections” and “probability models”. From hour to hour it becomes clearer: we will be incredibly lucky - we will be spared and will not have to be evacuated.
Our last location - St. Pete - has to expect severe flooding, so there is an evacuation recommendation for Treasure Island, we in Cape Coral will “only” get a tropical storm. That means securing everything that can fly around, parking cars in the garage, staying at home and putting down the blinds - just like we do at home when there are strong storm warnings.
We made it through Cape Coral on Wednesday morning: there's a rise in water on the canal and a few big puddles on the road, but everything else was ok. But all eyes here are on Tampa and inland - where Idalia is sweeping the country badly. The Weather Channel is broadcasting non-stop again.
We spend the morning at home and observe the weather situation. When it is clear that nothing bad is coming, we use the bad weather day for shopping and typical American bowling.
