31.08 - 3.09
31.08 - The last day of August was again rather uneventful. For the first time, we saw a Perth street sign and the landscape is slowly changing. We made a stop in Geraldton, which has been our largest city so far. Here we stocked up on supplies and unsuccessfully tried to find our camping table in various camping stores, as it was no longer at our site when we returned from our outing the day before. Then we headed to the campsite in Green Head, where we happened to run into a few familiar faces.
01.09 - After doing laundry, we set off directly from the campsite on the Three Bays Walk. We enjoyed the midday and afternoon at Hunters Bay, where we could swim in surprisingly sunny weather and enjoyed the beach. After dinner, there was the long-awaited check of the car, which showed that only our coolant level was a bit low.
02.09 - Today we had a lot planned. First, we headed to Jurien Bay, where a sea lion tour awaited us. We quickly set out by boat to an island with a sea lion colony, where we were allowed to go snorkeling. It was an amazing experience, but in our opinion (Rule 50 m distance from the animal), not enough was done to maintain enough distance from the animals. Next, we continued to the Pinnacles (Nambung National Park), where we were welcomed by a nice (and large) visitor center. We explored the Pinnacles on foot and even encountered kangaroos. The Pinnacles are weathered limestone pillars reaching up to four meters high. The landscape was very impressive and had an extraterrestrial feel to it. To wrap up the day, we hopped into the hot tub at our campsite in Lancelin and enjoyed the sunset from our beach campsite.
03.09 - Action in the morning chases away worry and sorrow, so we went sandboarding. This is a well-known recreational activity on the dunes in Lancelin. Surprisingly, it worked relatively well, apart from some occasional face-plants into the sand. Afterwards, we made our way to our first major milestone - Perth. First, we went to Cottesloe Beach. The weather there was already less friendly, but we were spared from rain and managed to get our warm clothes down from the roof box in the evening.
