Carnarvon - from plantations to museums to car troubles

已发表: 30.08.2024

22.08 - 24.08

22.08 - We set off from Warrora Station to Carnarvon. Not much happening, except for the first rain.

23.08 - This day was marked by visiting plantations and museums. In Carnarvon, 80% of Western Australia's fruits are grown. For us, it meant buying fresh vegetables and fruits directly from the growers found along the Fruitloop. Afterwards, we visited the Space Museum. The station plays an important but rather unknown role in human space history. To conclude this tour, we visited the Gwoonwardu Mia Museum, which focuses on the history of the Gascoyne Aborigines, including their art, heritage, and culture. We really enjoyed this museum, especially because the Aborigines told their own stories.

24.08 - With joy, we continued to the next coast, including a national park. Listening to music and flipping through brochures, we were traveling at 110 km/h (according to the speed limit), until a noise made us sit up and take notice. Marion looked out her window, and what did she see? Oh no! The awning from the roof was hanging down. Driving to the left was the best option. Upon closer inspection, we realized that the awning was only hanging by one screw. No reception, Swiss army knife useless, we were left with no choice but to detach the awning and stow it in the car. Once we had reception again, we informed our rental company. Since it was Saturday, we had to wait until Monday to bring our car to the garage. We spent the next few nights at the RAC Monkey Mia Dolphin Resort - a campsite with a reception that resembles more of a hotel.
