The history of Mallorca

已发表: 30.07.2018

Mallorca is the largest island in the Balearic group and is located about 170km from the Spanish mainland. It has a mild subtropical climate with an average of 8 hours of sunshine per day and a low average rainfall (1400 milliliters in the north and 400 milliliters in the south).

The short and mild winters are among the reasons why many (older) tourists use the island for overwintering.

The official languages in the Balearic Islands are Catalan and Spanish. Mallorcan, spoken in Mallorca, is a dialect of the Catalan language and, together with Menorcan and Ibizan, is counted among the Balearic or island Catalan languages. In the tourist centers of the island, the language of the largest tourist group (mostly German or English) is largely spoken, although in my experience, one can always speak in their own national language in larger cities. Most of the time, one is already recognized as a German.... I wonder why? :-)

About 880,000 inhabitants were registered in Mallorca at the last census - 408,000 of them live in the capital Palma. The next largest municipalities are Calvià, Manacor, Llucmajor, Marratxi, Inca, Alcúdia, Felantix, Pollenca, and Sòller.
