Rottnest Island: Visiting the Quokkas (Mini Kangaroos)

The day has come. I can finally explore the island with these mini kangaroos!

The prices for drinks and meals on board are quite steep.

Rottnest Island - The simple pleasure in life.

There's even a guide on how to take the best selfies with Quokkas.

Renting a bicycle costs 20 euros per day. At first, I didn't want to, but I really enjoy riding, so I ended up renting one. However, only guests with pre-arranged bookings were given bicycles. Annoying!

So I went exploring on foot instead.

I just took a short break under a shelter. And suddenly, there they were.

There were even five of them in total.

So adorable!

And curious!

And they drink.

And here they hide.

And they eat.

Even petting them was possible.

They don't even shy away from backpacks.

So cute!

And fed with bananas without permission.

Eventually, I continued on foot.

I really wonder how this Quokka died.

There were 36 water tanks for storage during World War II.

I always want to go to places where not everyone goes. That's why I just walked by here.

At this lake in the middle of nowhere, there was also a single Quokka.

Then I found this dried up lake.

Full of salt crystals.

I have never seen anything like it.

Back near the harbor at the restaurants, you can also occasionally come across the Quokkas.

When I took out my sandwiches, a few seagulls also wanted to have some.

Then at 5:30 p.m., it was time to go back to the mainland.

Including sunset.

As far as I have read, a Dutchman once came to the island by boat and thought that the Quokkas were rats. Hence the name Ratten Nest = Ratnest.
