When I arrived in Taitung, I was really surprised to see such a nice hostel and, above all, English-speaking owners. I thought I would feel at home straight away. After I brought my backpacks to the room, I headed into town as usual. Here, too, I felt at home straight away. But the longer I was outside in the warmth, the more my bites started to itch, so I just got something to eat and then sat in a cool shopping center and tried to find out what I could do about bed bug bites. So the next day was declared laundry day. I threw absolutely everything from my backpack into the washing machine, including Amanda, who desperately needed a wash! While my laundry was in the washing machine, I walked into town again to get some fresh fruit and vegetables from the market. I liked the city more and more. By the time everything was in the laundry and hung up, it was afternoon. When it stopped raining, I went to a lookout point in the city to look over the roofs of Taitung. Then I continued on to the beach until it got dark. On the way home I got dinner at the night market and then enjoyed it in peace in the hostel because it started to rain again outside. The next day I took the bus along the coast in the morning to a small town nearby that is known for surfing in Taiwan. I sat down on the beach for breakfast and then watched the two surfers outside for a while. Unfortunately there was a typhoon in Taiwan at the time, so the waves weren't really good for surfing. I then went into town and walked around a bit. Then I sat in a café and waited for the rain to pass. Then I took another route through an abandoned military area or whatever to the beach and went for a swim in the rain and wind. In the evening I got something to eat before heading home. Since I really like Taitung, I stayed another night and drove to a small national park nearby the next day. I did the longest hike I could find on the plan, but it was still only 2 hours. The park itself is pretty beautiful. I even saw 2 local deer or something like that. From the highest point of the national park you can see all the way to Taitung and the sea. Since I wanted to hike a little further, I made my way to a waterfall, but unfortunately after an hour the path ended and I had to turn back. Since I hiked more or less along the river the whole time, I went for a swim at the end and enjoyed having the whole river to myself. Later in the afternoon I headed back to Taitung. After a shower and a bit of relaxation I headed back into the city. I wanted to really enjoy my last evening here and so I did. The next day I continued on to the very south of Taiwan in the morning! 🫶🏼
