Hi guys,
After an unusually long time, I'm checking in again. There are a few things to report, even though not much has changed in our situation in the end.
As mentioned in my previous posts, we spent last week working in an apple packhouse. However, we didn't like it at all, so we decided to leave the job early, to be exact, on Wednesday, January 8th, 2020. After taking a two-day break from work, we called our employer on Sunday evening to inquire about the start of work for the next day. He told us that unfortunately he didn't have any more work for us. My first reaction was to tell him what a jerk he is, but I held back and simply wished him a nice evening, because in fact, being "fired" actually suited us quite well. What was clear, however, was that we wanted to leave the region where we were stuck for the past week as soon as possible, because it was simply boring.
With a good feeling, we continued our journey today, because fortunately we have already found a new job. It is in "Melbourne", which is still a long way to go, but in general, the job sounds better than anything else we can currently find in the region, which is why we will start there next Monday. The job basically involves working in a recycling company, which may not sound very exciting at first, but after a few very nice phone calls with the HR manager working there, it sounds like a very nice environment and a relatively cool workplace in the center of "Melbourne", making it a very good job alternative. For the first week of work, we were even offered to stay at the home of the lady, who, by the way, is named "Michaela", until we could get an overview of the sleeping arrangements in the city. We are both very excited and it can only get better at the end of the day!
For now, our path has led us back to the coast, back to "Byron Bay". Here we will enjoy our free time at the beach for the next 1-2 days before embarking on a approximately 1600km journey through the Australian Outback. On this route, we can bypass the fires that are currently raging on the coast and safely reach our destination. We are taking care of ourselves and constantly staying informed to be as safe as possible on the road!
Greetings from Byron Bay, Australia!🇦🇺
Your Tim!😊
