Greetings dear people!
Today I was once again in Funchal. Right after breakfast, I walked to the cable car station in the harbor. From there, you could book your trip to 'Monte' (round trip cost a total of 15 €). Using the 'Teleférico', it took about 20 minutes to reach Monte, which is located at an altitude of 550 meters. Besides the church 'Nossa Senhora do Monte', there are several tropical gardens to admire. Including the 'Jardim Tropical Monte Palace'. The entrance fee of 10 € seemed high at first. However, after spending 3 hours there and still not seeing everything, I can live with it!*g*
By the way, from Monte you can also traditionally race down the extremely steep streets in a wicker basket! :D Such a sled (see picture gallery) is steered by two drivers using a brake hook and can accommodate two passengers.
I'm currently making a stopover at the hotel and will continue exploring Funchal in the afternoon. Tomorrow will be the second part of the big island tour!
P.S.: If you're wondering why I'm taking so many pictures of lizards: The lizard is pretty much the only wild animal that Madeira has to offer! There are no foxes, wolves, bears, wild boars, or any other animals. The first settlers released hares, but that's about it! That's why you can hike everywhere here without worrying about your safety (if you're not afraid of heights, of course).
Best regards to the feet! ;)
