Mayas, bathing and flamingos

In the morning we visited the first Mayan ruins. Ek Balam is not one of the most famous, so we were almost alone at the beginning. The special thing here is that you are still allowed to climb the pyramids. From the top, we enjoyed a beautiful view of the jungle.

The site also includes a beautiful cenote. We welcomed a refreshing swim and snorkelled in the cool water for some time.

Afterwards, we drove to Rio Lagartos. This nice, little seaside town is known for its flamingo colonies. After an idyllic lunch with a view of the nearby islands, we took a boat towards the pink birds. The highlight of the 3-hour tour was a visit to a salt lake that turned pink due to the many crabs.
