what happened so far

the blog begins...

today I decided to start the blog, and yes, there are still 177 days until departure or 181 days until the MS Norröna will take us from Hirtshals over Törshavn to Seydisfjödur. We plan to share with you some small details during this waiting time about:

Why Iceland?

Why a blog?

How do we want to travel?

How are we planning our almost 6-month trip?

and what else is to come

why Iceland?

in 2022, travel was still quite difficult due to COVID restrictions, but Iceland presented itself as a destination for our wedding anniversary trip with a relatively straightforward entry process. Thus, we set off on May 19th for a five-day short trip and returned with a virus, no, not COVID, but the severe Iceland variant, which immediately manifests with strong symptoms, including LONGING and an endless number of IMAGES in our minds.

We will return, but until then, it should take some time, and we still had quite a bit to handle.

Of course, we had a lot to tell and show, over 3000 pictures and several minutes of small clips. We exchanged ideas with other Iceland enthusiasts and fantasized about a multi-week trip with our own vehicle; yes, that would be cool.

Quickly, however, the ideas met reality - a vehicle that would meet our expectations was far beyond a reasonable budget for us, not to mention the significant costs of crossing with the only ferry connection.

We decided to fight our virus in the future with small doses and planned another trip for November 2023; this trip should gift us 10 wonderful days with a snowstorm, a turbulent sea, a storm in Reykjavik, but also beautiful sunny days on the beach of Eyrarbakki and Reynisfjara.

The title image for our blog was taken on the morning of November 23rd on the way to Dyrholaey and perhaps gives a small impression of why Iceland has enchanted and infected us so much.
