After the Diamond Beach, continue on Ring Road 1 heading east towards Egilsstadir.
During the journey, I made a few stops.
1) HÖFN
The Hafnarbudin, logically located at the harbor, offers a wonderful Chilli con Carne, served with tortilla chips. The restaurant even has a drive-in. The avocado sticks, as well as the burgers, looked really delicious. Worth mentioning are the homemade ice cream and the smoothies with various toppings (Oreo, Snickers, Nutella, etc.). This was a small snack in the afternoon.
In the evening, I had an excellent lobster at KAFFI HORNID. HÖFN is known for its lobster dishes. Absolutely amazing, although a bit pricey. But it was definitely worth it. I had my iPhone charging in the camper and unfortunately forgot it there.
2) Just before DJUPIVOGUR, there is a small inconspicuous parking lot. Hidden behind the hill, there is a larger bathtub in the middle of the landscape. I happened to meet the builder, who goes to the hot spring every day with his son. It's great to sit in the hot spring in the middle of nowhere with a view of the sea, but the water is so hot that you can't stand it for more than 1-2 minutes and have to get out, otherwise you'll get burned. He simply called it 'Meat Soup' and laughed at how we tourists tried to get out of the water as quickly as possible. And that's exactly how you feel afterwards, revitalized on one hand and completely cooked on the other! But it's definitely worth a visit!
3) BREIDDALSVIK
And now comes the 3rd meal of the day, at 10:40 PM, a small snack to prevent the guy (me) from starving. A mixed grill plate with lamb, chicken breast, and sirloin steak at Hotel Blafell. Once again, excellently prepared but as always, too little and expensive. Honestly, I don't know why the portions in Iceland are always so tiny. I had to order an 'Icelandic Cheesecake' to feel full. It doesn't look so small in the picture, but it's deceptive! ;-)
4) Arrival after midnight in FASKRUDSFJÖRDUR (Another very nice Icelandic word to memorize)! ;-)
The camping site in Breiddalsvik was tiny. Space for about 8 campers. Everything was full. So I continued to Faskrudsfjördur and luckily found a spot here as well. Next morning, I continued to the starting point of my journey, EGILSSTADIR.
After 5 weeks of the amazing Iceland, I'm back near my starting point, SEYDISFJÖRDUR. Tonight, I'm going to the floating pools of VÖK BATHS in FELLABAER, Urridavatn, and for the last day tomorrow, I'll spend it in Seydisfjördur.
I think a small final report/resume about Iceland will follow, maybe accompanied by a few pictures.
So, stay tuned!
