quick stopover
We have reached Derby, 200 km further north. Our first destination here was the Bob Prison Tree, where slaves or prisoners were locked up in this tree in the past.
So, the tree was the prison back then. From Derby, we planned to drive a short distance on the well-known 'Gibb River Road', but then we found out that it is 'easier' to drive a short distance on the highway and then enter the 'attractions' from the side.
As a little explanation: The Gibb River Road is about 600 km long and is only suitable for 4-wheel-drive vehicles. The road is simply referred to as terrible here. It is full of big rocks, hills, and rivers to cross. The authorities advise drivers to have at least two spare tires on this road. We didn't want to subject our car to that, so we decided to take the highway and then explore a small part of the Gibb River Road to see the most beautiful attractions.
Back to Derby, it felt like a ghost town. The harbor bridge looked like it was about to collapse. We spent the hot day at the swimming pool to cool down, then continued to the next rest area. Today, for the second time, we saw a big spider, a Huntsman Spider here also called 'little ball of Happiness'. The spider is said to be so harmless here that some people even catch them and keep them in their house to eat other spiders :-D.
