Côte d'Azur - Nice, Monaco, home visit, Iron Man, homesickness

已发表: 16.09.2023

Hello 🙋‍♀️, I'll try to write a summarized report about the Côte d'Azur!

On Thursday, September 7th I set off towards Nice! The campsite was 15 km from Nice with great train connections and the beach was all 400 m away. The aunt at the reception said to watch out for the walls on the left and right when driving in to your parking space. I already had a pulse and armpit before I even started the engine again 🤣🤣. It was tight but it was still okay and my parking space was one of the few where you could easily park forward! Apart from swimming and chilling on the beach, I didn't do anything else.

On Friday the plan was to clean the “house” again. Visitors from home had been announced 😊. Brief moment of shock when the message came: “The security checkpoints are so full, I’m missing the plane! My pulse at 180 shit I just thought! A short time later, I pushed forward and am now on the plane... 3 hours later Sandra was there!

The next morning we headed off to Monaco to see the rich and famous! I thought Monte Carlo was pretty cool but sometimes very pretentious. Here a Ferrari, there a Porsche! One great yacht after the next! But it was still cool to drive the route with the hop on bus that is used in Formula 1.

Afterwards we drove to Nice because we had rented a hotel room there for one night so we could watch the Iron Man the next morning! The alarm clock rings at 5:45 a.m. sharp the next morning. Tired but still happy, we set off in the dark so as not to miss the start. We started swimming at 6:50 a.m. We fought our way straight to the beach (it was pretty busy at that time). After swimming we went to the hotel for breakfast and I lay down for another 30 minutes. This is definitely not my time to get up so early anymore. A little later we went through Nice and took a look at this great city. We were back on the course for the marathon to cheer on the runners. The good thing was that they had to run 4 laps and that meant we got to see them more often. After a few runners had reached the finish line, we slowly made our way to the motorhome. We felt like we had participated too. Being on your feet all day in the heat is also tiring. We walked almost 36 km in 2 days and my whole body hurt, I'm getting old.

The next morning we had to get up almost as early again because Sandra had to take her flight home. I took her to the train station and saw a beautiful sunrise. When I said goodbye I couldn't hold back my tears anymore (not because of Sandra) but suddenly I felt homesick. Now someone is flying to your homeland and I have to stay here. It really wasn't that easy.

Thank God my Swiss girl (Sabrina) came to the campsite a little later and we want to travel together for the 7 days. We spontaneously decided to stay here one more night to take the train to Menton, the city known for lemons.
