Old Town Chiang Mai

Hello to Germany 🇩🇪

Today we left early. The Old Town of Chiang Mai, with its magnificent temple tour, was on our agenda 😊. The hotel manager advised us to bring an umbrella. There was a typhoon on the way 🙉. Well, I thought, then I don't need to apply sunscreen. I just applied mosquito repellent and that was it 😜.

We took a taxi to the Old Town gate and continued on foot from there. It was very nice that the sun came out. It must have been a pleasant 45 degrees 🙉. No 'umbrella or typhoon', there were clouds in the sky from time to time, but they were harmless.

In the heat, I was actually grateful for every temple we could enter 😬. They were all air-conditioned. A ceremony was taking place in one temple. Two men in white dresses knelt before an old monk, and 6 to 8 other monks surrounded them. The old head monk spoke and sang something. Eventually, he gave the two orange robes 😊. They stood up and returned after a short time, dressed in the robes. We learned from a Thai woman that Buddhist ceremonies were being conducted in some temples today 🤗. We just assume that the two young men were admitted into the order of monks! But that could also be wrong 🤓. It's just our theory 😜!

After our extensive temple tour, we strengthened ourselves with delicious Thai food and went to a local travel agency 🙂. We wanted to get an overview of all the tour options. We also directly booked a jungle tour for tomorrow, with 'extreme adventure' a la Dragon Flight. Oh, I am excited to see what that will be like 🙉😬!

Full of anticipation and so that we are relaxed and easy-going tomorrow, we treated ourselves to a 30-minute back/neck/head massage. 😜 I really enjoyed the massage. At first, I was skeptical because 100 baht (2.50€) for half an hour seemed very cheap to me, considering that I would pay 25€ for that at home🙃. No, it was really good and I am so relaxed 😂!

As relaxed as we were, we wanted to visit the night market 😁. We reached it at nightfall🙂. That meant shopping 😬😬😬😬😬, yippi!

Although I have to admit, with the humidity, it is not very enjoyable to shop, but we were still very successful 😂. Hm, when trying on a t-shirt, I discovered my sunburn 😶🙉 on my neck and décolleté! Daniela also asked me in horror, 'didn't you apply sunscreen today'? Nooooooo, only the mosquito stuff and besides, it was supposed to rain 🙉! Well, it's not that bad, I will survive 🙃.

We made some good bargains and then went to the Food Market. There we bought something to eat. The Food Market was really well set up, we were thrilled 😊! Just as we finished our meal, it started to drizzle🌧. We quickly got a tuk-tuk and as soon as we sat in it, well how do I put it best? It poured down like buckets. The tuk-tuk driver had to close all the curtains so we wouldn't get wet🙉! In the hotel, we had to take big umbrellas because the small one couldn't handle the amount of water😂.

Now it has stopped again, that's the nice thing here. The rain showers last at most 30 minutes and then it's over 😜!
