Our first stop in Colombia was the city of Pereira. It is also not very touristy here and there is not much to see. Actually, we wanted to spend a few days in the small town of Salento, but we didn't realize that it was a holiday and the whole town was booked for days. We only got two rooms in a hotel for one night.
We took a bus from Pereira to Salento, which took about 1 hour, and the ride was already beautiful through the impressive landscape, a huge coffee growing area.
Arriving in Salento, it felt like half of Colombia wanted to spend the holidays here. But the town itself was really lovely. Many colorful houses, several small shops, lots of flowers, and the smell of freshly brewed coffee everywhere.
We went for a short hike through the incredibly beautiful landscape and wanted to visit a coffee plantation. We had a little feeling as if we were on vacation in the mountains of Germany=) In between, we stopped at a small plantation and had a cup of fresh coffee and ate delicious homemade cake. What could be better….?!?
When we later arrived at the large plantation, there were many tourists and we would have had to wait for the next guided tour. So we decided to go back to the small plantation and even got a private guided tour there. The nice guy explained to us the entire process from the seed to the growth of the coffee plant to the creation of the coffee as we know it.
I think I've never drunk as much coffee as in these days=)
Even though it was only two short days in Salento, I have also fallen in love with this city and have already become a total fan of Colombia=)
Matching this theme, I would like to send a special greeting to our most loyal reader Nathalie, who always diligently reads our blog and is a huge coffee addict, this would be paradise for you=)
