Barbara and I are finally starting our long-planned Alpine crossing for wimps, with luggage transfer and overnight stays in hotels.
We started shortly before 6am. From Willich to Düsseldorf train station. The train was on time, a compartment just for us 😀. But in Mannheim we had to change trains, 30 minutes delay. Nevertheless, we caught all connections and arrived at Hotel Bussy Baby at 2:30pm. Very nice hotel. Then straight into our hiking clothes and back to Gmund by bus, where the tour officially starts.
After some difficulties finding the right path, we ended up on the Tegernsee Alpine Trail. After 2 km, the trail became really beautiful! Through meadows and fields, many cows, later also forest trails. And of course, always uphill and downhill.
An hour before reaching the town of Tegernsee, we found a great beer garden in a luxury hotel and stopped for a break. Fantastic view of the lake.
Afterwards, we continued downhill to the town and stopped for a beer at the famous brewery near the monastery. Then the plan was to take the old rowing ferry to Rottach-Egern. We arrived at 6:20pm and could only watch as the place closed 😩. The ferry only operates until 6pm!
So, we continued on foot around the lake. In Rottach-Egern, a nice little town, we had a mediocre dinner.
Afterwards, we walked the rest of the way to the hotel in the evening sun.
So, on the first day, we managed to cover a total of 18 km.
Summary of the first day: very beautiful idyllic area and great weather. Let's hope it stays that way 😀.
