Abel Tasman National Park

已发表: 07.03.2019

Today I'm reporting on two days, first because they are thematically connected and second because there was no internet last night.

From Nelson, I made my way through increasingly wild tracks to the Totaranui Campsite. It's actually just a simple campground relatively at the end of the Abel Tasman Coast Track (one of the Great Walks, which are certain multi-day hikes that are particularly popular).

Because worse weather was forecasted for today and you are only allowed to stay one night at the campground, I immediately set off for my actual destination upon arrival: the Anapai Bay. It takes about 1 hour to walk over a low hill through dense forest and then you reach a beach that can compete with the most beautiful beaches. Mountains and forest up to the white sandy beach, which is not at all contaminated. The sea crystal clear and only small waves. With air temperatures of 26°C... so pretty perfect!

And there were very few people because in this region the forest fire danger level is at the highest level and all subsequent campsites as well as some hiking trails have been closed.

Back at the camp, I had dinner first (you can see my little kitchen in the car above).

Since the campground is located in an otherwise uninhabited bay, is not illuminated and there is nothing else in the wide area that gives off light, you can see the starry sky really well!

I got up quite early to watch the sunrise, but unfortunately the horizon was full of clouds. But it was impressive anyway, or precisely because of it.

Legolas would probably say about the red sun: blood has been shed tonight. And indeed, I have slain a battalion of sandflies and mosquitoes, but still got quite a few bites...

Today, because of the weather report, I drove all the way to Westport, more precisely Carters Beach. After almost 2 weeks, this afternoon is laundry day!

And the sky also looks like a laundry room, let's see.

Until then...
