After our big reunion at the airport, we went straight to the car rental station to pick up our vehicle. And sure enough, we got our car (almost...) without any complications. We drove east towards Kruger National Park. The left-hand traffic didn't give us much trouble and after about 2 hours, we stopped at a rest stop to buy some provisions (from the men's toilet, we could observe buffalo, zebra, and rhino). The drive took us through mountains and valleys with beautiful landscapes, until we arrived at Kruger Park after about 5 hours. Tired from the journey, we went to bed early in our accomodation, the Pretoriuskop Rest Camp. The next morning, we woke up at 5.00 am - nature is already awake, as are the monkeys that inhabit the camp. With some breakfast supplies, we got into our car and started driving - without a plan. Just a few meters from the camp, we were already surprised by hyenas and waterbucks. We were able to make many more great observations before returning to the camp for a power nap, checking out, and continuing our journey. We headed towards Skukuza Camp, where we had lunch. After that, we traveled west out of the park, to have dinner and spend the night in Sabie. During our drive through Kruger Park, we were able to observe, admire, and photograph several species (hyena, waterbuck, kudu, impala, rhino, giraffe, elephant, wildebeest, zebra, warthog, hippo - many birds, including the fish eagle, as well as turtles and chameleons). 'Hidden' elephants even scared us...
Tomorrow we will continue northwards along the Panorama Route.
