Praia...yes exactly Praia, I'm sitting in the same guesthouse from where I started 29 days ago, somewhat clueless. But as you could follow, my path has come together piece by piece. And you couldn't expect anything else because "Cabo Verde" is definitely worth a trip, or even a second or third.
It's really beautiful here, the landscape is so diverse from island to island, and I haven't seen them all yet. The incredibly friendly people, everyone has a smile and greets at least with a thumbs-up or even with a fist bump. The food, I'm impressed, always good, always fresh and always delicious. And let's not talk about the weather because it's always perfect.
Ok, what can I say, I spent the last few days on "Sao Vicente". The island is also very interesting. But different again from Santiago or Santo Antao.
First of all, it's smaller than the others and therefore very manageable. Life here revolves around the city of "Mindelo", from here you can reach everything else in a maximum of 20 minutes. And then the island appears drier and more barren than the other two. This is mainly due to the fact that the mountains here reach a maximum height of 744 m and therefore do not reach the cloud-bearing clouds and stop them, as is the case in "Santo Antao". Therefore, the "Monte Verde" is the highest point of the island.
But still, "Sao Vicente" is no less spectacular. For example, I went on a long hike from "Salamansa" to "Calhau". With a distance of 17 km, it was no less strenuous than the previous hikes on the other islands. However, this time it didn't go up or down, no, straight ahead only. The first part went through steppe landscapes, the second part followed along the coast for 8 km or partly in the water. The occasional plunge into the water provided the perfect cooling off at these dreamy beach sections.
On the last three days, I took the "Aluguer" to the small village of "Sao Pedro", where you can also find another incredibly beautiful beach. You can walk along this beach for two km until you reach the settlement of "Santo Andre". Here you have the opportunity to hike along an old path on the cliffs to a lighthouse (1.5 km) and then enjoy a delicious meal at the Bistro Andre. Of course, the sea here also invites you to the perfect refreshment, or you can go snorkeling with the turtles in "Sao Pedro", which is also a fantastic experience.
And so, my journey this year comes to an end. Although it was shorter than the past ones, it was no less beautiful and memorable.
