Time flies

Atejade: 17.12.2017

Today is already our seventh day here in Twizel, the week went by incredibly fast. The work we had to do was not really hard on any day. We made more or less rooms (depending on how many were occupied at night) and in the remaining time we watered plants outside, picked black currants, or painted chairs and tables:

In the afternoons, we always did something. Unfortunately, the weather wasn't so good on Wednesday, so we tried Frisbee Golf here in Twizel. That was quite funny and I had to crawl through a small tube for the first time in my life. In the text it said that you had to throw the Frisbee through the tube, and if it landed in the tube, it would be okay. Of course, I managed to land the Frisbee EXACTLY in the middle of the tube, and the tube was much longer than it looks in the photo... So I had to crawl through to get it back... something you have to experience.

Fortunately, the weather was good again on Thursday and we drove to Mount Cook, where we walked the Hooker Valley Track (about 3 hours round trip). The landscape there with the snow-covered mountains is really impressive, absolutely beautiful.

The weather was only somewhat decent again on Friday, so we drove to Omarama and visited the Clay Cliffs. They seem a bit out of place there, as they simply stand in the otherwise normal landscape, but they were naturally formed by flowing glaciers millions of years ago.

On Saturday, yesterday, we drove to Lake Tekapo, which everyone always says is so beautiful. There is a small stone church by the lake, 'the Church of the Good Shepherd', which is also a very popular tourist destination. When we were there, the sky above the lake was unfortunately a bit cloudy. But we still climbed Mount John, which is located near the lake, and the sky cleared up there again. From the mountain, you have a wonderful view of Lake Tekapo and there is a café up there where you can enjoy the view during the day and observe the starry sky at night.

On the way back from Tekapo, we passed a beautiful field of flowers, where several groups were already standing to take photos. Of course, we didn't miss the opportunity to stop there.

Originally, we were supposed to leave tomorrow and continue our journey, but Peter, the owner, asked us if we want to stay one more night because the next Woofer can only arrive one day later, so we will leave on Tuesday.
