At the beginning of our stay in Chiang Mai, today we want to take a closer look at our home for the next few days. Conveniently, our hostel is located in the old town, so we don't have to go far to trendy restaurants, the main landmarks, and the shopping street.
For the city tour, after breakfast at the hostel (which we booked this time), we make a plan after thorough internet research. We want to visit the most impressive temples and landmarks that can be reached on foot.
After visiting several very impressive temples, all adorned with many Buddha statues and lots of gold, we finally reach Wat Chedi Luang. This is a huge temple ruin that is several centuries old. After visiting many 'normal' temples, Wat Chedi Luang impresses with its ancient architecture, simplicity, and sheer size. The temple looks like something out of a Tomb Raider story, and you instinctively try not to trigger any traps on the ground. Unfortunately, the temple can only be visited from the outside.
Afterwards, we continue to visit more temples until we reach the Monument of the Three Kings. This statue, revered by the locals, depicts three ancient kings who are said to have founded the city of Chiang Mai in ancient times.
After visiting various temples and taking our shoes on and off numerous times, we walk home through a market. On the way, we grab a snack for dinner. A fresh and ice-cold coconut drink and a cup of crispy and hot spring rolls, which we enjoy on our balcony. It's a feast, we can tell you!
