Sukhothai ruins with flair

Ipapashiwe: 29.05.2019

After two detours into tourist nowhere, we have chosen Sukhothai as our destination, which is on the itinerary of many travelers.

It is one of Thailand's most popular historical sites. However, we are traveling during the off-season, so we are almost excited to see a tour group.

Sukhothai is considered the first capital of Siam and experienced its heyday in the 13th and 14th centuries. On a large area, there are countless ruins of centuries-old temples in various states of preservation.

The main facilities located directly in the city are situated in a beautiful park and require an entrance fee. In return, you can cycle around and enjoy the beauty.

The park seems to be freely available to the locals, who jog, walk, and cycle here diligently in the evenings.
There are two slightly remote areas that can also be accessed with an entrance fee and many smaller facilities in between.
The majestic tall trees that stand everywhere are inspiring. This mango tree is said to be 200 years old.

One highlight for us was Saturday evening when some temples are illuminated and you can stay until 9 pm. It is a very mystical atmosphere, especially because there were hardly any people.

The Wat Saphan Hin is located slightly outside on a hill and was recommended as a place to watch the sunrise. So we hopped on our bikes shortly after five and cycled for half an hour under a starry sky. Unfortunately, clouds formed in the east, disrupting our beautiful plan.
It was still interesting, another German couple had the same plan and then a whole platoon of soldiers in training attire came jogging towards us.
However, after a short service and a group photo, they disappeared again, so we could enjoy the atmosphere again.
We spent the hottest hours either in the hotel or in an air-conditioned cafe and only became active again in the late afternoon. The colors are also much more beautiful in the evening light.

In total, we spent four nights here. The bikes provided by the hotel were faultless, we used them diligently and had fun.
