Thailand - 2nd stop: Khao Lak

As the second stop on our tour of Thailand, we chose Khao Lak in Phang Nga. This popular holiday destination is located 2 hours north of Phuket by car. As I later discovered, this place was particularly hard hit by the tsunami on December 26, 2004, and was also the setting for one of my favorite movies, The Impossible. We wanted to treat ourselves and booked a room for two nights at the 5-star hotel Moracea right on the beach. I felt a bit out of place there, but it was still a special experience. Since the city is mainly geared towards tourists, there were several shops and restaurants within short walking distance of the hotels. We spent our time lying on the beach, exploring the area, and pampering ourselves. After this stay, we moved to the more affordable hotel Kokotel closer to the shopping street and stayed there for another 2 nights, where we continued to have a good time.
