St. Petersburg has so much to offer. The highlights are spread out. Even after the first day of sightseeing, we can still hardly grasp the city.
We tried to visit some of the attractions by bus and on foot: The Sphinxes, the columns at the historic harbor, the cruiser Aurora (As a person who grew up in East Germany, I can relate to the revolutionary monuments.), Nevsky Prospekt, Church of the Savior on Blood, various parks, cathedrals, and palaces. A boat trip through the canals of St. Petersburg was very nice. One of the highlights was definitely St. Isaac's Cathedral, which was almost like St. Peter's Basilica in Rome, but in the Orthodox style.
We also took a ride on the metro. At the Admiralty station, you descend 120 meters on the escalator! At least that's a record in Russia. At our station, Sportivnaya, you travel several hundred meters on a moving walkway under the Neva River until you reach the surface. You don't experience something like that every day.
Tomorrow is officially free time. We will see.
