Chobe National Park

Ipapashiwe: 25.09.2024

5:45 AM, without breakfast we get into the jeeps for Chobe National Park.

We are not the first ones. There’s quite a bit going on there.

At first, we see nothing, but then we do. And as a crowning highlight of our morning safari, we come across a group of four majestic lions. Wonderful!

As hungry as the lions, we dive into the breakfast buffet.

Rejuvenated and full of energy, souvenir shopping is on the agenda.

It has been successful.

In the afternoon, we continue on the water. We cruise on the Kwando, the border river between Namibia and Botswana.

In the Kwando lies Sedudu Island.

The disputes over the national affiliation of this island reached the International Court of Justice in The Hague in 1999.

Since the water between Namibia and the island is deeper than between Botswana and the island, the court decided that the island belongs to Botswana.

And that’s a good thing. Because Namibia wanted to sell the island to the Chinese for rice cultivation.

There’s a lot to see both on the riverbank and on the island. For example, an old dead buffalo.

This buffalo is now on the menu for other animals.

The system sustains itself, and everything finds its use.

After a particularly beautiful sunset, we rush back to the hotel.

Eat, shower, go to sleep.
