Day 6-Preikestolen

Ipapashiwe: 27.07.2017

After our beautiful evening in the middle of nature, we experienced a night and a morning of heavy rain and strong gusts of wind. Unfortunately, there was no quiet sleep after 3 o'clock in the morning. At 7 o'clock, the rain took a break and we took the opportunity to pack up and continue driving. Unfortunately, without breakfast, because the rain didn't pause for long.

We drove to the village of Lauvvik to take the ferry to Oanes. After 8 minutes, we were on the other side of the small fjord and continued towards Preikestolen. On the way there, we noticed countless parking prohibition signs along the roadside, which puzzled us. The explanation came from the sign of the official parking lot. Its operators demanded the equivalent of about €22 for a parking spot. We thought that was quite a lot. So we looked for an alternative in the pouring rain and found a small bay. Parking was also prohibited here, but at least we could have our well-deserved breakfast. We could only park about 2 kilometers before the actual start of the hiking trail to Preikestolen. At the beginning of our hike, it was still raining lightly, but luckily it stopped after a few minutes. The path to Preikestolen stretches over 4 kilometers and goes steeply up narrow, rocky paths to a height of 604 meters above sea level.

After 3 hours, we arrived at the large cliff area, just at the time when the weather changed from cloudy to brilliant sunshine. The view and the incredible expanse that could be seen from up there rewarded us for the strenuous ascent. We will not forget these impressions so quickly.

After a break, we descended the steep path again and arrived at our parking lot after a 12-kilometer hike, exhausted. We drove a few kilometers to our next parking space. Back in nature, by a fjord. Here we will spend our evening and continue on tomorrow.
