Cluj Napoca

Ipapashiwe: 04.07.2019

Last weekend we were in Cluj Napoca, the second largest city in Romania. In addition to a historic old town, there are numerous bars, restaurants, and clubs that are particularly popular with students. On Friday, we were invited to a traditional dance in the market square. After that, we tested the nightlife in Cluj :D

On Saturday, we explored the city. We visited some churches, a botanical garden, and a park with an area just for hammocks (hammocks seem to be very popular here in general). We also had a panoramic view of the whole city from a viewpoint.

After taking care of a flat tire on Sunday morning, we took the rented cars to the 'Turda' salt mine. The mine was quite impressive with its numerous light installations. After that, we went to a monastery complex.

Driving in Romania is generally quite adventurous. The roads have numerous potholes and due to the mountains, there are countless sharp curves. The main roads usually pass through villages, which is why a car ride feels twice as long as usual. In addition, most roads only have one lane. Therefore, overtaking maneuvers can sometimes be a bit risky (but no one seems to care). It is also advisable to watch out for people and carriages on the road. Lastly, we found out that hitchhiking seems to be a popular means of transportation.
