We had decided to take the train to Chiang Mai during the day so that we could enjoy the scenery from the train. We had already picked up our tickets at the train station the day before.
After the train started, it traveled through slums and very poor outskirts of Bangkok for a while. It was tough to see how poverty hits outside of all the tourism here in Thailand. After leaving the last districts of Bangkok, we first passed through areas with a lot of agriculture and then finally arrived: THE JUNGLE!!! We were both excited to see what a jungle looks like, but somehow it was exactly like what you see in Tarzan and co... On both sides of the train, all we could see was green. Eventually, the sun set and after a 12-hour train ride, we arrived in Chiang Mai in the dark. Since we had so much time on the way here, we finally studied our travel guide. We saw that there is a local Sunday night market right in the city center and very close to our hostel. THAT was the plan for tonight... so quickly to the hostel and then into the city to get some movement.
However, before we could go to the night market, our hostel mom left us dinner. We didn't know when booking the hostel that breakfast and dinner were INCLUDED for only €13 for both of us in a private room :)
