Brilliant start to the tournament

Ipapashiwe: 16.07.2018

Yesterday, we had a small training session on the test fields from 9-10 am to get used to the temperature. After that, we went to the hotel where we had free time until 3 pm.

At 3:30 pm, we all went to the opening ceremony of the WFDF 2018 World Ultimate Club Championships in Cincinnati. All the teams gathered there and watched the program with excitement.

The show started with some acrobats and a live band. Then, some people entered the stadium with the national team flags of the representing countries.

The highlight was the playing of the national anthem (of the USA), and three skydivers flew into the stadium. Two of them had long ribbons in the national colors and one had a large USA flag.

It was simply brilliant...

After a short 10-minute speech, the opening game started, which went into halftime with a score of 8-7. During halftime, one of our players received an award for fair play along with 5 others.

After the award ceremony, we went back to the hotel because the sun was scorching.

On the way back, I noticed a church that had a fountain and a statue of Jesus facing the highway. Absolutely great idea and well represented.

After spending some time at the hotel, we went to Five Guys for burgers.
There you can see the Five Guys xD

The burgers were very tasty and the fries were perfectly cooked. German chains can really learn something when it comes to preparation.

After dinner, we went back to the hotel and went to bed.

We had breakfast at 6:30 am and left for the fields at 7:30 am.

Our first game was at 9 am against a team from Taiwan, which we won 15-9. After a 2-hour break and a cooldown, we played our second game against a team from Japan. It was a close and exciting game, and my team made history here. It was the very first victory ever in the club's history against a team from Japan. We won 15-13 and are heading into the next group phase day with two wins on the first day.

Tomorrow, the tournament continues at 9 am.
