Arriving at our hosts' house, we were warmly greeted by the grandfather and taken to our room on the rooftop terrace. Later, the rest of the family and some of family father Manuel's friends also arrived. We enjoyed a good whiskey and had a conversation.
In the morning, we met our friend Mano again and shared our experiences. The housekeeper Manuela was already busy preparing the two huge turkeys. We went to a mall to get the last Christmas presents. They were then nicely wrapped and placed under the Christmas tree. As is traditional in Peru, we had turkey and some wine at around ten o'clock in the evening. Peru is quite oriented towards America. Here, Santa Claus also comes on the 24th of December at midnight. It reminded us a bit of New Year's Eve when we went outside shortly before midnight to admire the impressive fireworks and wish each other a Merry Christmas.
Afterwards, we gathered around the Christmas tree and took turns handing out our gifts. We spent some more time together before going to bed. The next morning, we enjoyed a delicious hot chocolate for a late breakfast. On this Christmas day, many relatives came and the house filled up. We got to know some of them better and had conversations before the hustle and bustle calmed down in the evening.
It was an exciting few days and we would like to thank Manuel, Iris, Joaquin, and Camillo for their warm hospitality.
We were able to experience Christmas in a different way and were integrated as if we had always been part of the family.
