Next stop: Kumamoto. Famous for its castle and Suizenji Park. Too bad I forgot that the castle was heavily damaged by an earthquake in April 2016. But no worries. It was actually quite nice to see a castle not fully intact :)
Today I wanted to go to Mount Aso, which has one of the largest calderas in the world. However, I didn't know during my planning that part of the train route was also destroyed by the earthquake and has been closed since then. And the bus connection there needs some improvements. So I went to the sea instead. At a beach nearby, you can observe wave patterns in the sand/water during low tide. So I also got a taste of rural Japan :D
