After breakfast and necessary maintenance work on the motorhome (water...), we set off towards Trondheim. The sun is shining at us🌞 Along the lake and through the highlands, we have great views of the landscape of central Norway. There is a lot of construction on the E6, mainly straightening of stretches. Everything should be finished by 2021! Upon arrival in Trondheim, we try our luck and find a rare parking space at the cathedral. We actually find one and proudly buy a parking ticket. Trondheim has existed since 997, founded by the Viking King Olav Tryggvason. The Nidaros Cathedral is impressive, but there is currently a church service taking place that we don't want to disturb. All Norwegian kings were crowned here. The construction of the cathedral began in 1070! We continue to the Bybro, the old city bridge. From here, you have a great view of the Nidelva River, with well-preserved old warehouses on wooden pilings along its banks. Today, you can mainly find restaurants and bars here. Our parking ticket expires and we have to move on😥 We head towards Kristiansund via the E39. The ferry is already waiting at Halsa and takes us to Kanestraum in 20 minutes. A 5 km long underwater tunnel takes us under the Freifjord and a 1257 meter long suspension bridge takes us across the Gjemnessund, and then we are on the main island of Kristiansund. The city consists of three islands. Exploring the old town of Kristiansund is on the agenda for tomorrow.
