As my funny self likes to call it: Brat-is-Lava

If we had explored the city according to this motto and had to find a secure place without touching the ground every few seconds, we would probably have been declared crazy and thrown out of Slovakia. Instead, we decided to discover the city with a Free Walking Tour.

Fortunately! Thanks to Martina (a very funny and highly motivated local), we were able to learn some interesting historical facts, the most important information about the remaining monuments and buildings, and also the most delicious national dishes. First, we walked through the city center.

Then we walked a few meters uphill to the castle that towers over Bratislava. We learned that in the past, it had never been taken by external aggressors.

So always go up the stairs, up, up, up.

Until we reached the top. Here, Martina introduced us to some customs and traditional dishes from Slovakia and made them very appetizing. After climbing so many stairs, we also needed to have some refreshments. And so we went to the 1st Slovak Pub, where we could try classic dishes and the cola drink Kofola.

My conclusion: DELICIOUS!!! Especially the Kofola convinced me. It tastes similar to cola but more delicious. I can't describe it any better. If you want to know more, you can also order it on Amazon. 😝
After the meal, we took a little detour to the last remaining gate of the city walls into the Franciscan Church, which is located in the middle of the old town of Bratislava. For only 1€, you can climb the bell tower and visit the catacombs. The city gate is also located at the 0 kilometer mark.

And then go downstairs again.

All in all, it was a beautiful, nourishing, and informative trip to the capital of Slovakia.
Afterwards, we visited Belvedere Palace and the New Danube. But I will give you an update on these in the last part of my Vienna trilogy.
