πŸ˜ƒπŸ› Glowworm cave in Springbrook National Park

Ipapashiwe: 17.11.2019

Augmented Reality map. Too bad there was no cell reception to download the appπŸ“΅πŸ“΅

Next, we headed to Springbrook NP.

There, you can find the unique glowworms in a cave. Yes, worms and not firefliesπŸ˜€πŸ‘ you can only find them in Australia and New Zealand.

Very cool even during the day.

Technically, they are not worms but larval stages of a fly species. Four chemical substances make them capable of emitting light.

For more information.

You can only see them glow at night. So, we waited at the parking lot until it got dark. Earlier, we had read in a guidebook that hundreds of visitors come at night. At first, we didn't believe it. But suddenly, out of nowhere: huge tour buses. And it didn't end.

And in the cave, some were clever enough to try and take pictures of the worms with flashlights πŸ€”

And now in color and vibrant:

We've created our own YouTube channel:

You can see the way to the cave and drone videos of Carnarvon Gorge here:

Since it was already late and dark, and there was no decent campground in the area, we decided to sleep on the parking lot a bit further away from the Glowworm Cave (according to our app, the rangers don't check this spot at night)

Well, at 10:30 p.m., they came by, warned us, and we had to drive half-awake through the national park for another hour to the next campground....

It's worth mentioning here that there are signs on every road every 5km telling you not to drive exhausted, but in the national park, they send you away at night....

Since Caro wasn't feeling well, we had to skip a few things around Brisbane. This includes Moreton Island.

Here's a glimpse from Google:

You can snorkel around wrecks and slide down a dune with a board there. We might spend Christmas there.🌲
