Christmas in Melbourne

Ipapashiwe: 26.12.2016

So now Christmas is over and there was really no Christmas atmosphere. It has never been so hot in all the time, as in the last few days ... And that especially at Christmas! The temperatures rose up to 38°C, so it was really unbearable in the city. The 24th of December was really unspectacular for us ... We strolled through the city, cooked spaghetti bolognese, went to Mass a little to get some Christmas atmosphere and then went for a drink afterwards.

Everything somehow very unchristmas-like and the Christmas Mass didn't make up for it. On the 25th of December it got so hot that you really couldn't stand it in the city anymore ... So we went to the beach! Just like apparently all Australians .. I felt a little bit like I was in Mallorca, as everyone was drinking alcohol with their Christmas hats and of course couldn't handle the heat.

That's how the Aussies celebrate Christmas.. Well okay xD Unfortunately, it was also barely bearable at the beach ... I don't want to complain, but it was really way too hot. In the evening we had reserved a Christmas dinner, a 3-course menu in a restaurant in the port of Melbourne. It was nice, but somehow it didn't have much to do with Christmas either. Well as you can probably tell, I'm a bit sad not to have been home for Christmas, because Christmas in summer is just not Christmas.

The second Christmas holiday is called Boxing Day here and is the absolute shopping day, because there are discounts of up to 50% everywhere. The Aussies are crazy, because they stood in line to get into the stores! For Christmas ?! Since we had the time, we treated ourselves to a visit to the hairdresser, to start the new year looking good as well. Otherwise, the weather allowed for a lazy afternoon, which was really quite relaxing after all, as the luxury of an apartment still has to be taken advantage of. To end the time in Melbourne properly, we went to a sky bar in the evening. GOODBYE MELBOURNE! Now things are being packed up and then it's HELLO SYDNEY!
