Part 2: The Olgas or Kata Tjuta

Ipapashiwe: 08.07.2017

The 2nd day of our tour starts with the sunrise at Ayers Rock. We walk to a plateau with an incredibly beautiful view over the vastness and see the rising sun! I don't think I need to tell you how beautiful it was! Just because we could see sooooo far!!

No one took a shower that day! Cold water and zero degrees... Honestly, we didn't even change into new clothes. We change pants and underwear and wear everything else that we wore to sleep -> namely all the sweaters and shirts that we have... 🙄 No mirrors anywhere - no cell phone reception either and it feels wonderfully liberating!

So we all continue - dirty from the red sand - to the Olgas. Our guide Jake (cool guy - super good-looking and very funny) explains to us very vividly and vividly how the Olgas were formed and we set off on our hike through the rocks.

And if you imagine that this would be a normal hiking trail... actually it was 5 km just climbing over rocks and there were a few tough climbs too!

Those who know me know that I'm a scaredy-cat! I was glad that Daniel fully took care of Mika and went ahead with him. So I only had to take care of myself - and that was enough!

A beautiful tour through the red rocks with lots of explanations from our guide Jake and the particularly steep sections were rewarded each time with a beautiful view!

After the tour, we move into our 2nd camp - this time even more off the beaten track, but really great!

We help Jake with the cooking! Daniel is always eager to help and Mika captivates everyone and talks to anyone - always finds someone to play Mau-mau with him by the campfire!

Jake shows us how to cook a complete meal - vegetable stir-fry, rice, potatoes, chicken in the fire! Even a cake for dessert! The whole thing is cooked in pots - they are placed on glowing coals with a lid, on which charcoal is also placed! Super delicious!

We decide to sleep in the swags again - this time right by the fire! We are the only ones!

Now I can really enjoy it - clear starry sky - full moon - the howling of the dingoes! No cell phone! It feels really good!!
