So, here I am back after a slightly longer time.
Somehow, uploading new posts on my phone didn't work, and I was too lazy to connect my laptop to the charger, oops :D
In summary, I can still say: I have definitely fallen in love with the city of Vancouver in the 20 days that I have been here. It has so much to offer. Of course, you can say that about other cities too, but what's special here is that no matter where you look, you can see mountains in the background. Since I'm a big fan of mountains and hiking myself, it's simply a dream come true.
But now let's talk about my past experiences :-).
The first week mainly consisted of settling in.
So on my first day, I participated in a 'Welcome Vancouver Bus Tour' and got to know some really nice people. But what I quickly realized is that you have to step out of your comfort zone and approach people yourself. Just standing in the corner alone won't get you anywhere. At first, I was a bit afraid of rejection, but in principle, the other people are new too and don't know anyone.
The bus tour included stops like Stanley Park and Granville Island, where I definitely had the best sushi of my life, with salmon and avocado. It was even more fun because the weather was great with blue sky and sunshine, and everyone was in a good mood.
The next day was my first day at language school. Here too, the motto was: Just approach the other students. That's how I met a good friend, she's from Switzerland. But of course, we only speak English :-)
In class, we now sit next to each other. The classes have an average of 15 students, and in my Cambridge course, we are 17 students. But what's funny is: there are only German or French-speaking people there: 5 Germans, 3 Swiss (one from the French-speaking part of Switzerland), 2 Belgians, and the rest are French.
Other than that, in the first week, we explored the city after school and had a picnic at Vancouver's English Bay beach on Sunday.
On Saturday, a friend visited me who is also from Germany and currently doing an au pair on Salt Spring Island. The circumstances of how we met are quite funny but also a bit complicated to explain. We met in person for the first time in Vancouver and just got along really well. I'm planning to visit her on her island soon.
So, that was a brief summary of my first week here. The next two weeks will follow soon :-)
