Canada - Day 9 (2) - Arrival in Clearwater

Được phát hành: 06.09.2018

Before moving into our accommodation in Clearwater, we took a little detour to Wells Gray National Park. There we visited the Spahat Falls. At the parking lot, we were greeted by a sign pointing out various treats to buy here. Such as hot dogs and of course the typical Canadian white sausage. Wait? White sausage? Yes, exactly! Germany follows you everywhere ;)

The path to the waterfall is not difficult and not far. From a distance, you can already hear the masses of water plunging into the depth. Once arrived at the viewing platform, the natural spectacle is revealed: masses of water plunging directly from a fissure into the depths. Luke lovingly calls it 'crack water'. Behind the viewing platform, there is a small hiking trail and since we have some time, let's see where it leads us. It doesn't take long before we are immersed in nature, without a soul in sight. Around us, there is only forest, it's pretty quiet and suddenly we start thinking about all the signs that constantly remind you that bears live here. Since we don't have a bear bell yet, we simply start playing Heavy Metal loudly on our phone, hoping that scares off any bears in hearing range. Maybe that was a bit exaggerated, but it's definitely a different feeling when you're completely alone in the middle of the forest, knowing that bears could be around. We only walked to the view point and then turned back. Back to the platform with the many tourists, where surely no bear will sneak up ;) Unless it's into Asian food, then it would be just right. Because when we returned, the platform was completely overrun by a horde of Asians. Again. We watched the crowd for a while as they tried to take the perfect vacation photo with selfie sticks, but eventually we decided to move on.

It was slowly time to find our accommodation. And searching was exactly the right word, because it turned out to be not so easy. We had booked again through Air BnB and we had both the address and a description from the host. When Google let us down, we had to rely on the description, which said in the printout: the last house on the left side. Well, from the street it wasn't so easy to see which one was the last house, when all the houses were in the middle of the forest. After several turns and searching around, we finally found our home for the night and were extremely excited. The house was in the middle of the forest, so pure tranquility, and here we had the entire lower floor to ourselves, which was converted into our own apartment with a separate entrance. The door was open, so we started unpacking, our hostess was not there yet. She had written to us and apologized, she had to quickly drive to Kamloops to get something. Quickly drive to Kamloops?? We had just come from that direction, it was about a 2.5-hour drive - one way! Yes, that's what Canadians understand as 'quickly driving somewhere'. Anyway, we went to introduce ourselves to her later. But first, she had to tame her dog, who was still a puppy but already quite big. But so adorable! He wouldn't stop greeting us! To our delight, our hostess told us that she would prepare breakfast for us tomorrow morning, so we didn't have to worry about it ourselves.

All we did then was shopping, eating something, and later we sat comfortably in front of the fireplace. We didn't need to unpack much, because tomorrow we would continue towards Jasper.
