Canada - Day 8 (2) - The lousy weather continues in Whistler

Được phát hành: 05.09.2018

Forced by the weather, we drove from Squamish directly to Whistler with Chris. There, we first looked for our Air BnB accommodation to unload our luggage. We had booked a private room in a house in a beautiful residential area of Whistler. Our hostess was not at home, so we found a note with information on the door. Finding a parking spot in the parking garage turned out to be a bit complicated, but in the end we managed it. Our room was quite cozy, we also had our own bathroom, which was pretty good. I would have preferred to stay here in the warmth (in Whistler it was only 5 degrees - and of course it was raining), but only Luke and I had booked the accommodation. We couldn't just leave Chris standing outside alone, so we were forced to walk into town anyway.

So, back into the miserable weather. At least we were able to find some sweaters in downtown Whistler. There was also a gondola, which I would have really liked to ride, but well, you know. Today's day consisted of a lot of 'would have, could have, should have...'. The weather didn't get any better, my mood got worse and worse, and so we wandered aimlessly through Whistler. We would have liked to sit down somewhere to have a drink. But with prices of 10 dollars for a beer, you think twice about it. After walking around in the cold for a while, we actually found a nice pub with good music and affordable prices. The day seemed saved! However, that changed when the waitress pointed out to us that the entry was only allowed for 18 and older and they wanted to check our IDs. And who had, of course, left their ID in the room? Yes, me. Even though I definitely don't look under 18, she insisted on seeing our IDs. Even when I assured her that I wouldn't order anything alcoholic, she still insisted on the IDs. In the end, we had to leave the pub and I really didn't feel like walking all the way back to the accommodation and back here in this weather. Besides, it was getting late, we had been up since the early morning hours and were getting tired.

The end of the story was that we ended up driving Chris all the way back to Squamish. It would have been unnecessary for him to find a room here for the night, as we wouldn't do anything today anyway. The mood was pretty much at rock bottom for all of us. We dropped off Chris at home, drove all the way back and went to sleep directly.

Today was really the ultimate low point. The weather was just awful and the further prospects didn't look much better. If the weather stayed like this, our further vacation would literally fall into the water. Because what should we do here in this weather? The only hope left was that the weather forecast was wrong... tomorrow we would continue to Clearwater, a 5.5 hour drive.

Our conclusion of Whistler: for a day trip (in nice weather!), it's definitely nice, especially if you can ride the gondola, but for a longer stay it's definitely too expensive!
