Penguins!!

Since we didn't want to spend another day at Wilsons Promontory National Park, we continued to Phillip Island, an island that can be reached by car and is only about 70 km away from Melbourne.

Unfortunately, it was a very rainy, cold, and cloudy day, but we still had fun! On Phillip Island, it is possible to see wild penguins up close, and we didn't want to miss that. Instead of watching the touristy 'Penguin Parade' and having to share a view of the penguins with 2000 other people, we wanted to see them on our own at the northernmost point, the Nobbies Center, where you can take a boardwalk to see seals.

Everywhere next to the boardwalk, there are wooden penguin nests, where you can catch a glimpse of one or two penguins with luck. And guess what, we were lucky and saw a few more =) we didn't even know that there are penguins in Australia. Once again, proof that Australia is incredibly diverse.

Who can say they have seen a live penguin, and not in a zoo? One of the penguins came out of its nest, raised its 'fin' to greet us and waved :-D. The second time it came out of its nest, it just turned around and emptied its 'back exit' directly in our direction :-D. We couldn't stop laughing.

Phillip Island is also worth a visit in general. The island is very beautiful, there are great cliff walks you can do, and the color of the hills is indescribable, it looks kind of autumnal somehow. From Phillip Island, we then went to Melbourne in the evening (117 km further away) to spend the night there and have a lot of the day tomorrow.
