On the evening of November 5th, 2023 the time has come and we will begin our journey a second time. This time our destination is again Southeast Asia. The first flight goes from Frankfurt am Main to Doha with a four-hour layover there and then we fly another 7 hours to Singapore. We fly with Qatar Airlines and on the second flight we even have a row of three to ourselves and can get some sleep. (Pillows, blankets and sleep masks are provided by the airline). It is already dark and late evening in Singapore when we land and take the train towards our hostel. The streets are relatively empty at this time of day. We check into the hostel, put down our backpacks and go for a drink in the bar next door. To celebrate the day, I 🙋🏼♀️ felt like having a Baileys schnapps, which ended up being more expensive than two cans of Coca Cola put together 😝 well, whatever ✌🏼
November 7th: After a good night's sleep, we woke up hungry and went to an Indian restaurant for lunch. Afterwards we visited a park and took a quick stroll through the city. Afterwards we rested a bit in the hostel (of course the jet lag was noticeable) and that same evening we visited Chinatown, went for meat skewers at our favorite stall in the Hawker Center and then made our way to the light show in Garden by the Bay. Our hostel wasn't too far from Marina Bay Sands, so we could easily walk to everything. We marvel at this city again and again at night; when the lights come on, everything looks even more beautiful and spectacular. We were even there when the water show with lights and musical accompaniment started in front of the Marina Bay Sands. Very impressive. Unfortunately we only had one full day in Singapore, so the next morning we headed back to the airport.
Just a few hours later our flight to Bangkok took off.
After landing, we took the Grab taxi to our hostel: Pillow & Bread, a little outside but close to the train station. 🚉 Chris's health had been a bit weak since Singapore, so unfortunately we didn't do any big sightseeing, but it wasn't our first time in Bangkok. One day we walked through Lumphini Park and booked a train ticket for the sleeping car at the train station (at least that's what we thought 😅) with the night train to Chiang Mai for November 14th, 2023.
Before that we wanted to spend a few days in Ayutthaya, the former capital is about an hour by train from Bangkok in a northerly direction. However, we were only able to book the train ticket on the same day of departure. We stayed in Bangkok from November 8th to 11th, 2023 and took the train, standing in wooden class, to Ayutthaya. 😄
